BOTOX®

Have those youthful facial expressions turned into permanent creases and wrinkles? BOTOX® Cosmetic is the answer. These creases and wrinkles in your brow and between the eyes at the bridge of the nose can be relaxed to allow your skin to be smooth again. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also helpful with crow’s feet, lip lines, and neckbands.

Dr. Fernau offers a personalized BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment program that relaxes the muscles and the skin for a smooth appearance. The effect usually lasts for three to six months and can be repeated when needed.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a procedure that has been safely used to treat a variety of conditions for more than ten years. It is now FDA approved for the temporary treatment of frown lines.

Dr. Fernau and his staff may choose to use a local anesthetic cream or ice to minimize the discomfort. Once the injection is complete there is usually no lingering discomfort.

JUVÉDERM®

WHAT IS JUVÉDERM®
JUVÉDERM® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such us nasolabial folds.

WHAT IS JUVÉDERM® MADE OF?
JUVÉDERM® is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in JUVÉDERM® is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA and is biodegradeble and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

HOW IS JUVÉDERM® DIFFERENT THAN OTHER HYALURONIC ACID-BASED PRODUCTS?

Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only JUVÉDERM® is non-animal-based. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

IS JUVÉDERM®SAFE?
Yes. JUVÉDERM® has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Because JUVÉDERM®  is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. There is virutally no risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. The most commonly reported side effects are temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.

HOW LONG DOES JUVÉDERM® LAST?
Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or even longer. The unique NASHA technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone.

WHAT SHOULD PATIENTS DO PRIOR TO TREATMENT?

JUVÉDERM® requires no pretesting, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.

RADIESSE®

RADIESSE® is a new injectable long-lasting product for soft tissue augmentation. It has been used to augment the lips, radial lip lines, nasolabial folds, corner of the mouth marionette lines, glabellar creases, acne scars, contour irregularities, small soft tissue cheek defects, chin and cheek augmentation, and areas of facial atrophy. The process is simple with the injection taking 15 to 30 minutes in the doctor’s office. Swelling and bruising are variable with more in the lips, but most people can put on make-up and be out in public within 24 to 36 hours.

WHAT IS RADIESSE® MADE OF?
RADIESSE® consists of tiny micro spheres of a synthetic material called calcium hydroxylapatite (30%) that is combined with a common hydrogel (70%) used in a vast array of products. The result is a white, creamy-like substance. While calcium hydroxylapatite has similar chemical and structural characteristics as bone and teeth and, therefore, is naturally compatible with the body, the RADIESSE® material is synthetic and man-made similar to a calcium phosphate.

HOW LONG WILL THE RADIESSE® TREATMENT LAST?
Most patients treated with RADIESSE® should look for a correction that lasts around two years although some patients' treatment will last three years or longer.

WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE ARE NORMALLY TREATED?
Typical RADIESSE® treatments include: smoothing and contouring smile lines or nasolabial folds, wrinkles at the corner of the mouth, vertical lip lines, acne scars, facial defects or recessions, frown lines, restoring volume in and around the cheeks, providing lip definition and modest enhancement or correcting asymmetrical features.

WILL THE RADIESSE® BECOME HARD CALCIFIED OR NOTICEABLE TO TOUCH?
To the contrary...RADIESSE® will remain soft and take on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue. New soft tissue will gradually replace the Radiance over time with most replacement occurring within three months. Patients report RADIESSE® remaining soft and passing the "kiss test".

HOW SAFE IS RADIESSE®AND ARE THERE ANY COMPLICATIONS TO THE TREATMENT?
RADIESSE® has been safely injected in over 30,000 patients worldwide without a report of reaction to the product. There have been minor complications reported by some patients receiving large volume lip augmentation where some lumpiness or small nodules have occurred within several days of treatment. Complications of this nature have been normally resolved clinically within 30-60 days with patients reporting satisfaction. Smaller volume lip augmentation is recommended.

EVOLENCE®

Sometimes, no matter how youthful you feel, your face tells a different story. Sunlight, natural aging, and lifestyle factors can diminish the collagen layer that supports the skin. And where collagen diminishes, unwelcome lines and wrinkles may appear.

Now, for the first time ever, you can replace collagen through innovative new treatments from human collagen. They're called EVOLENCE®, and they're changing the face of beauty.

Drawing upon the latest breakthroughs in skin science, EVOLENCE® contain human collagen grown under controlled laboratory conditions. This human collagen is similar to the collagen normally found in the skin so there's no need for a pre-treatment skin test.

And here's the best part--No more skin testing means no more weeks of waiting for the results. Instead, you can smooth away telltale lines and wrinkles or add definition to the lip border with just one quick visit to your physician. And since recovery time is short, you can easily sneak in a treatment during your lunch hour.
